IPv4 – IPv6 context

According to AFNIC (Registry for the Internet domain names), only 7,8% of IPv4 addresses are still available in the world. The only solution to this problem is : the migration to IPv6. A global test was held on June 8 : IPv6-Day. Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Orange... participated to this test.

This experiment was a success. That's why, Eric Besson, Minister of the Digital Economy, has announced, the next day, the acceleration of the IPv6 migration in France.

The Rezopole website is now IPv6 as well as most of its equipments.

IPv6 contribution

More address space :

  • all equipment identification

  • end to end communication

A simpler header :

  • 8 Fields instead of 13

  • fixed size header

  • extensions are handled by the "terminal equipment"

IPv6 allows also :

  • an auto-configuration : the equipment is entirely « plug and play »

  • easy to set up mobility - address : simplified notation

Interest to have its own IPv6

All important structures or based especially the Internet ones should have their own adresses, in order to be independant from their ISPs and have Internet access directly to : Internet eXchange Points. Having your own IP addresses, allows you to "peer", to easily change your ISPs and represent a real network, not just a final branch of the Internet.

Get your IPv6 addresses with Rezopole
